From single initiative to European interest group for the renewable energy market

RECS International is a not for profit organisation registered in Brussels. Its main goal is a pan-European market for renewable energy facilitated by harmonised certificate systems of renewable energy.

The start up phase began in 2000, with a test phase - testing the systems - from 2001 to 2002. The initiative started with several energy companies, working with national renewable energy certificates, who wanted to trade internationally in the new liberalized European energy market.

Since 2003 RECS International is fully operational, changing its status from foundation into association in 2004. RECS International at the moment (2007) has about 200 members from 24 (European) countries.
