The certificate market for renewable energy develops gradually line over time. At the beginning there were only national green electricity initiatives. Subsequently a voluntary market based on the RECS was introduced. At present, the EECS system has been implemented in seven countries already, embedded in national legislation according to the EU directive. With the upcoming evaluation of these directives, and the first target goal to be reached, lobby for a better system is more important than ever. RECS International takes this opportunity to thoroughly advertise its mission.
Aside from the electricty market there are other certificate initiatives that strongly resemble the RECS system. There exists growing attention for so-called white certificates for energy savings in buildings. Italy, France and the UK already have markets for these certificates and interest from other countries is growing.
Combined Heat and Power (CHP) certificates is another growing market and also in the area of biofuels certification is upcoming.
