Renewable Energy Certificate System

- the RECS International Association -

A system
RECS stands for Renewable Energy Certificate System. RECS was created to stimulate international renewable energy development. The system advocates a standard certificate as evidence of the production of a standard renewable energy quantity and provides a methodology which enables renewable energy trade. This enables a market for renewable energy to be created, so promoting the development of new renewable energy capacity in Europe.

A certificate
A RECS-certificate can be issued for every MWh of renewable energy as long as the trader / producer opens a RECS account at its national issuing body. To do this, one should become a RECS International member.

An interest group for market players
The association RECS International is a non-profit European organisation registered in Brussels. Its members are renewable energy producers, traders, suppliers and brokers in mostly Europe (also in South Africa, US and Canada) who either wish to have a RECS account at their national issuing body and / or wish to influence policy on governmental and system level concerning certificate trading. RECS International acts as the representative of market players towards national and European governmental authorities and facilitates all possible events and activities that enhance the RECS mission statement.
